A:
Yes. Amazon has signed contract with some big textbook publishers to have textbooks published in Kindle ebook format. I've mentioned quite a lot about textbooks on the Amazon Kindle, in another answer here:

Amazon amazed tech geeks when it first released details of the newest top-of-the-line Kindle, the Kindle Fire. For $199, Amazon released a device that looks more like an iPad rather than a traditional e-reader. Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.com, describes the approach as “premium products at non-premium prices.” However, is the Kindle Fire truly an alternative to the iPad, or is it an e-reader trying too hard?
I’ve been using an e-reader for over a year now. Initially switching from traditional print books to e-ink seemed strange but having highlighting and note-taking features, along with a dictionary, proves e-readers to be a worthy investment for college students. When writing research papers, having a search feature in books makes the writing process much easier.
The Kindle Fire takes these features and expands upon them; when highlighting a word or passage, users have the option to highlight, make notes and look up a word using a built-in dictionary like my old e-reader. However, the Kindle also gives the option to look up the word or phrase on Google or Wikipedia. While it is not the first reader to do this – this type of feature is typically reserved for higher-end readers that cost well above the Fire’s $199 price tag.

A Few Pictures Are Worth A Thousand Words If you are still with me, then let’s see a few examples of how some native (mobi) and PDF books and technical papers are rendered. Kindle DX does not reflow PDF content, therefore you cannot increase the font size of all those technical papers. A word of caution: the quality of the photos themselves is barely tolerable and I apologize for it. On some photos you can see a distinct barrel distortion due to the point and shoot camera I used. Overall : it’s a pleasure to read from it, you can stop printing all those 4-6 pages white papers and fit them in your Kindle. You can only zoom in and then use navigation keys to move around. Getting a new book is just one link away. Getting a new book is just one click away. No Wi-Fi means you need a cable to upload a book or paper you just downloaded from the net outside Amazon Store (or pay a fee to get it delivered via e-mail). Too bad that the prices for many e-books are pretty much the same as their paper equivalent....

In October 2009, Amazon began shipping the Kindle internationally and added the capability to use Whispernet (the Kindle's wireless service) in countries other than the United States. In May 2009, Amazon announced the Kindle DX.
