Iranian Jafar Panahi's Extraordinary Act of Resistance, “This Is Not a Film”

The Oscar success of the Iranian drama “A Separation” should steer some attention toward Jafar Panahi and Motjaba Mirtahmasb ’s “This Is Not a Film” when it opens for a two-week run at Film Forum in New York tomorrow. One of the bravest movies ever made and an extraordinary act of resistance, it is Panahi’s clandestine, self-reflexive response to being banned from filmmaking for 20 years and being sentenced to six years in prison by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ’s draconian government.

Currently under house arrest, Panahi lives with his wife and daughter in their pleasant Tehran apartment. He and his friend Mirtahmasb shot the film there on a cellphone and a small digital video camera. Stored on a USB flash drive, it was allegedly hidden in a cake – some reports say a loaf of bread – and smuggled into France, where it was shown at the Cannes Film Festival last May.

Wireless video camera with USB connectivity?

I’m not quite sure what the point of a Wireless camera is that has to be connected to a computer…But there are wireless cameras that all you have to do is plug it into the wall and it sends a signal to the wireless router and then you can view... All you need is a wireless network. And of course if you don’t have that you can always just plug it directly into a router….
