We should not use metal containers while using microwave ovens. But the box is itself is made of some metal. What is the metal/alloy and why is it immune to microwaves? Can't we use the same material for cooking food?

I have read on several sites about how nutrients are lost in the water within food that is microwaved. This a food scare myth trhat has been around since before the internet. Bunk. No CREDIBLE study has ever substantiated the claims. Oh yeah, if you burn the food in a microwave oven it can produce some carcinogens. Just like your regular oven or even food cooked in a pan on the stovetop.
Russia has not banned them either. They are restricting the importation because they bhave become so popular.

But what does the magnetron do that causes the microwaves
The magnetron is the tube in an RF circuit, that is running a small transmitter. The inside of a microwave oven is part of the 'tuned circuit' of the transmitter. When things are placed in the oven, they interrupt the TUNED circuit, and cause heat, with standing waves. It actually de-tunes the magnetron frequency, creating heat in whatever is placed in the oven. It is properly 'tuned' when the oven is empty. The frequency of the radio circuit in a microwave oven is around 2 Gigahertz. These fast moving electrons heat the items. Not too good on things like potatoes, since they also dry up moisture in products. They actually heat from the center which gets the hottest..(The middle of the potato would be hotter than the outside.)
