I am trying to replace an over the range microwave. Is it mounted to the wall? Are the mounts universal?

All of the electricity and venting is okay. It is mounted to the cabinet above. I am thinking of going w/ another brand. Do they all mount the same way?

Does over the range microwave build up moisture from the stove below?

When ever I use the stove to boil water, etc.below my over the range microwave without using the exhaust fan, I have trouble using my microwave. This time the magnatron blew. Is this a common problem with over the ranges micros?

I have a microwave over my stove and I never had a problem.
PS, I do not use my exhaust fan
PSS, It is a Whirlpool brand

Can you put any old microwave in an over the range microwave slot?

My mom's current over-the-range microwave recently shot some flames inside. She has another microwave that she believes she can slide into the slot. I guess there is some sort of venting trim she can buy that will still allow her to vent. Is this actually the case? Can you really just put any old micro up in there?

To answer the direct Q, I suspect "ANY" might depend on the size of the opening.

OLD is obviously a word you use for one that exists other than the one that flamed out.

What might be important is finding the receptacle the Burned out "NUKER" was plugged into.

Certainly a built in usually vents from the front, which will also matter in your case.

Quiet venting fan on over the range microwave?

Looking for an over the range microwave that's quiet and does a good job with ventilation and that's reliable. Any suggestions?

By far, the quietest method is remote located fan motor. Electrically controlled damper opens vent at stove. Must be rated for that use, due to kitchen grease and steam vapors. Check out Fantech website. I used this type of fan for bath exhaust, it's virtually silent. Multiple intakes using one fan motor with ducts.

how to vent a over the range microwave outside?

I want to put in a microwave over the range. I have a vent system in there now. If I remove that, can I vent the microwave up through the roof, where the pipe currently is. I would think that I would need to move the cupboard up a little to allow enough space between the microwave and the range?? Also, do I need another electrical spot, or is the microwave wired into the wires that are there for the vent now? thanks,

Firstly you do not need to put a vent on the microwave, it's a closed appliance and has no hole cut in it to accept a vent.

Secondly, it's hard to determine if the existing electrical supply will be right for the microwave.

Range hoods a just basically a fan that sucks in air and blows it through the vent, they do not require many amps to run them safely.

Have a look at your microwave to see how many watts it is.

Then trace back the existing electric outlet supply to the circuit breaker.
You can do this by plugging in a table lamp, and turn one breaker off at a time, when the lamp goes out, you know which breaker supplies the outlet, then check to see the circuit breaker amperage. It might be 15 amps or higer.

Here is an easy formula
volts x amps = watts

Basically 120 volts x a 15 amp circuit breaker = 1200 watts

So if that supply is not connected to anything else and your microwave is 1200 watts or less, it will be fine to use the existing outlet.

If the supply does travel to other outlets, you may need to increase a 15 amp circuit breaker to a 20 amp one.

If you do need to increase it, DO NOT ATTEMPT to remove the old one. Consult the experience of a qualified electrician the existing wire may be the wrong gauge to support a 20 amp circuit breaker and microwave.
