Gas stove????
The oven doesn't work anymore in my gas stove. The pilot light is on...(it's an electic pilot.) The "gas" stove needs to be pluged in to work. I use to use a match to get it started but that's not working anymore. There is gas getting to it because the oven fills with the smell of it. Do you have any ideas on what I should do to fix it or do I have to spend a fortune on a new one? Thank you.
It is most likely the ignitor. That is what you are calling the pilot light. The ignitor must pull 3 amps to open the gas safety valve to allow the gas to flow. Even though the ignitor is glowing red it may be weak and not pulling the proper amps. You can check it with an amp meter. Not pulling 3 amps, replace it and your oven will light.
Can a gas stove be moved to stand next to a kitchen sink without any gaps in between?
I am renting an apartment in which the 2nd floor kitchen has an old farmhouse sink on the left, a 5" gap or so of space, then the gas stove. I wanted to move the gas stove so that there is no space in between the sink and stove. I want to place a workspace cabinet on the otherside of the stove.
1) Are there any safety concerns in having the gas stove moved to touch the side of the sink cabinet?
The sink cabinet is metal. I don't know why the stove is not directly sitting next to the sink but somebody thought it would be the place for installing an old metal towel rack on the side of the sink cabinet.
2) Can I move the stove myself or do I have to hire someone who is experienced in working with gas appliances?
3) What do I have to do to prepare the stove before I move it over those few inches?
4) Is it safe to have a painted wooden cabinet sit on the otherside of the gas stove? I don't use the oven, just the gas burners on top.
THANKS!
if you are going to move the stove, move it the other way,do not put it next to the sink...safety concerns...if you are going to move it, get someone who knows what they are doing...gas line could break(i have seen it happen) and if you dont know how to shut it off there could be a big problem...as far as next to a wood cabinet, there is no problem with that, the outside of ovens does not get hot enough to do anything
How does a gas stove differ from an electric one?
I only have ever cooked on an electric stove...what does a gas stove do differently? Do you have to do something really different when going to cook something?
1. Gas is usually a cheaper fuel for cooking vs. electricity.
2. Electric burners stay hot WAY longer than gas burners after they are turned off (burn hazard).
3. Foods cook faster on electric stoves than gas stoves when on the same setting (like medium). Be careful you don't burn things if you are used to a gas stove.
4. You can use gas stoves during a power outage! You have to light the eyes manually but it's saved my family from going hungry during several power outages!
That's all I got!
The gas stove flame is more orange than blue?
Is there something wrong with the stove? Nothing is dripping on the gas stove.
Thanks to all you who answered this questions, you were all tremendously helpful!
from gas engineer - your flame should be blue so a mostly orange flame means which means their is incomplete combustion happening, your stove is not burning the methane properly which means there will carbon monoxide being released in to your kitchen which is very dangerous do not attempt to work on cooker yourself as other people have said as you must be competent to do so as you have asked this question you are not it is against gas safety regulations for you to do so get a gas service engineer around asap its important you get someone in. hope i have been of help to you
Is it cheaper to use gas or electric stove for cooking?
I have an electric stove that was given to me for free. The home that I am in is fitted for gas and I don't have a gas stove as of yet. Would it be worth the cost to get an outlet installed and forget about the gas?
All resources are expensive to use they are a commodities so we the consumer must pay for them, it also depends on how much do you cook , I have both stoves and the only difference is keeping them clean I love the self cleaning ovens so they use more energy when I clean the ovens, during black out I was glad to have the gas stove because I could cook . My advise to you would be to have both stove installed to serve you better in case of a large dinner party or even a possible black out .
