Wood Stove???

Any good tips on how to use one..

We are going camping and the cabin we will be staying at has a wood stove, like back in the old days, with the burners on top and a place to heat water...
I have never used one but could use some tips if you got any..

We have a wood stove in our house, and to make the fire initially make sure you have some kindling and newspaper. Stack the kindling up around the newspaper, sort of like a teepee. Make sure its sturdy so it can support bigger pieces of wood. Light the paper underneath the kindling and let it burn a bit. Then put bigger logs on top once you know the fire is going to keep burning. Usually we use about 3-4 logs to get the fire going.
After that, if you want to keep it burning, add about 2 logs every 1 1/2 hours or so. We usually go through about... 10-15 pieces of wood a day, and thats what we use to heat our house.

Can I connect insulated stove pipe directly to the wood stove?

I am hooking up a wood stove and was wondering if it's possible to connect the insulated pipe directly to the wood stove.

You need to use the insulated pipe from the ceiling box up. You DON'T necessarily have to settle for single wall pipe down to the stove. There is a pipe called "close clearance" stove pipe which is double wall but not insulated. We heat our store with wood and the pipe stays cool enough that it won't burn you on contact. If you're using a good air tight EPA stove you shouldn't be losing enough heat up the pipe to help "heat" the house with. If you can post what brand of insulated pipe you're using I can send you all of the part numbers that you need. Hope this helps! I hate seeing so much bad information on here!!

How do you convert a pellet stove to a wood stove?

My husband and I are buying a house with a pellet stove and would like to have a wood-burning stove instead. Is it possible to swap the pellet stove out and how hard is it?

If you simply remove a free standing pellet stove and add a wood stove without changing the stove pipe you will burn your house down. A wood stove puts a lot of heat out the chimney(not as effecient). If you have an insert in an original wood burning firplace you will need to remove the pellet stove and restore the wood fireplace to its original condition including the chimney if needed. If you have a free standing pellet stove with a small 3"-4" pipe going to the outside for exhaust then you would have to completely convert that to a larger 6'-8' triple wall pipe which will cost at least $300 alone depending on how far it has to go.

You wont find a wood stove more effecient than a pellet stove so I unless it is for ornamental purposes only I would leave it alone. I know that wood fires can be more natural and more appealing than a pellet fire but it is your preference.

Can a wood stove be engineered to radiantly heat floors?

I love wood heat and warm feet. Is there any way to rig a wood stove so that it can radiantly heat floors in the winter, safely?

how much to have a wood burning stove installed in my house.?

i can do some work myself. but i want it to be legal, i have a gas stove now and the house has never had a wood stove, i can buy a old wood stove cheap there are many in the area. and i can get wood free some times and gas prices are very high i no i can save money this way.

Really depends on the quality of the pipe used. Stainless steal is the best. Double wall pipe can cost 50 dollars for just a few feet. You might look into building a chimney too.
If you run it for your main heat you will get all the money back.
Cheep stove pipe that will rust out with time fairly fast cost about 4 dollars a foot single wall. You need a double wall pipe to get it through the wall.
